Bali – Nusa Lembongan
Nusa Lembongan is a small island off the southeast coast of the main island of Bali. Quickly became one of Bali’s most popular attractions, this paradisiac island is a world away from the trouble and hectic pace of South Bali. Neither hawkers nor traffic mar the magnificent scenery; this is a fine place to just put your feet up and relax. Main activities include surfing, diving and snorkeling. The water is some of the clearest you will find anywhere, and a vivid aqua blue in colour.
Lying through the Badung Strait from Sanur is Bali’s first scuba diving destination – the crystal waters of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan islands. With its adjacent deep water trenches, the main attraction of diving at Lembongan Island is the common meeting with the very rare oceanic sunfish, also known as mola mola.
Sunfish are deep-sea fishes growing until 2 metres long. They are found in temperate and tropical waters, feeding off jellyfish and large plankton. They have heavy bodies, large blunt heads and stubbed tails, with elongated dorsal and ventral fins that can span 4 metres. They are most often present in this area from July to September.
